The Refining Potential of Suffering

The existence of a saintly soul stems first and foremost from the grace of God and secondly, not unlike a diamond,
from sustained pressure over time. Without pressure, prosecution, and suffering we either become self righteous like the Pharisees, spiritual warriors bragging about our strength without ever seeing combat, or fall into the dissolute living of Herod’s court, throwing a fit when our steak is overdone and ignoring God in favor of Netflix binges and air conditioning. The critique that Christianity makes one weak has nothing to do with Christ’s teachings or the martyrs of the Bible and everything to do with the compromises Christians have made by and large with secular society.

The progressive narrative is that things should always be getting incrementally easier, the utilitarian maxim that we must strive towards the greatest pleasure and be spared the greatest pains. If Christians want to make the case for easing the burden of others in terms of their basic needs, this is Biblically sound. But when we ourselves remain in comfort while others suffer and when our creature comforts infringe on the time and abilities that God has given us we are in serious spiritual peril. Consider for a moment 1 Peter 4:1-4:4-

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries

The book goes on to extol the virtue of perfect charity before telling us in verse sixteen that “if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf”. The position of progressivism is that all suffering is bad (in practice, that all suffering for those who will not do away with tradition is bad). The position of Christ is that Christian suffering is divine. We should not be praying to God to make our lives easier but rather begging Him for the trails needed to purify ourselves and become closer in faith and action to Christ. When we lose in the eyes of the world we win in the eyes of God.

We have reached a time where in western societies Biblical principles are becoming taboo, where Christians can expect hostility for preaching the message of Christ. This is fantastic news, and we should praise God for it. Too long have Christians sat on the fence, straddling the comforts of the world on the one side and the Word of God and the Heavenly realms on the other. Reconciliation is no longer possible; watering down the Gospel in order to appease modernity is no longer palatable. As 2 Timothy 3:12 tells us “all that will live Godly in Christ shall suffer prosecution”. Yes, the world is getting worse but do not despair. Our generation is being offered a great chance to suffer for the glorification of God. Our congregations may not number as high as our forefathers, but the depth of faith our trials will afford us are worthy of our tearful praise. God Bless.

Why Atheism is Ridiculous

Nowadays, atheists define their position as “lack of a belief in God or gods”. This definition itself is idiotic. By defining their position as lack of belief, that means that bricks, dust motes, and people in comas are atheists.

If we add a reasonable clause to this, changing it to “Atheism is lack of a belief in God or gods, in an agent that is capable of such a belief.” we end up with a psychological property. Psychological properties are uninteresting for philosophical discussion. “I lack a belief in God.” Well, we do believe in God. So what? Do you hold that lack of belief to be rationally justified?

They claim this lack of belief doesn’t have any additional impact on other beliefs.
